It’s 1997, three years after the Rwandan civil war and the Tutsi genocide. Eva, an ambitious young med student, is abducted, raped and then forced to marry her captor, thus perpetuating a terrible tradition. Left to her own devices in her new family, the young woman unexpectedly bonds with her husband’s still-traumatized cousin. Stark and meticulous, a failing social system and a ravaged national psyche is revealed.
